marcus. ("we," "our," or "the app") is a Stoic philosophy application that provides daily quotes, teachings, podcast content, and journaling tools. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
We collect the minimum amount of data necessary to provide you with a functional and personalized experience.
Data you provide directly: Journal entries, saved quotes, reading preferences, and any feedback you submit through the app. Journal entries are stored locally on your device and are not transmitted to our servers unless you explicitly choose to enable cloud sync.
Data collected automatically: Usage analytics collected through Mixpanel, our third-party analytics provider (such as which features are used, session duration, and general navigation patterns), as well as device type, operating system version, app version, and language preference. To analyze this activity in aggregate, Mixpanel assigns a randomly generated identifier to your app installation and may derive approximate location (at the city, region, and country level) from your IP address. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or precise/GPS location.
Purchase data: If you make an in-app purchase, the transaction is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment information, credit card number, or billing address.
We use collected data exclusively for the following purposes:
To deliver and improve the app experience, including displaying your saved content and preferences. To understand how features are used so we can improve them. To diagnose technical issues and fix bugs. To deliver daily reflection content based on your progress and preferences.
We do not use your data for advertising. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
Journal entries and personal preferences are stored locally on your device by default. If cloud sync is enabled, data is encrypted in transit and at rest using industry-standard encryption protocols (TLS 1.3 and AES-256).
Usage analytics data is processed by Mixpanel, a first-party (product) analytics provider. Mixpanel does not combine your data with data from other sources and does not track you across other apps or websites for advertising purposes. Analytics data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Mixpanel.
The app may use the following third-party services, each of which has its own privacy policy:
Apple App Store (for purchases and distribution). Mixpanel, for aggregated usage analytics — you can review Mixpanel's privacy policy at https://mixpanel.com/legal/privacy-policy/. No advertising networks or ad tracking services are used in this app.
marcus. is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal data from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that data promptly.
You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data at any time. You can delete all locally stored data by uninstalling the app. If you have enabled cloud sync, you may request deletion of your cloud-stored data by contacting us at the address below.
Where analytics data is processed by Mixpanel, Mixpanel acts as a data processor on our behalf and provides mechanisms that allow us to honor your access and deletion requests for that data.
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to data portability and the right to restrict processing.
If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what data is collected and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.
We retain usage analytics data for up to 24 months. Locally stored data persists until you delete it or uninstall the app. Cloud-synced data, if applicable, is retained until you request its deletion.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
